Instant Pot 5-Minute Italian Pasta

When I’m in a time crunch, this is one of my favorite go-to Instant Pot recipes, hands down: Instant Pot 5-Minute Italian Pasta. Imagine creamy Italian Pasta on the table in just 5-minutes! It’s quick, it’s classic yet easy Italian, and your family will absolutely goes nuts over it. #Instant Pot #pasta #Italian #family

As I’ve grown in my practice of Instant Pot cooking, I’ve learned some tricks that help me get my recipes, like this Italian Pasta dish, right almost every time. You see, Electric Pressure Cooking is all about two things:Instant Pot 5-Minute Italian Pasta

Layers and the liquids. Why? Because pressure cooking uses STEAM to created the pressure that cooks your food so quickly and perfectly. The only way to create adequate steam is to have enough liquid in your pot (at least 1/2 Cup) and in the right place. No liquid? No steam! Liquid too thick? Forget about it!

How do you get that Instant Pot balance just right?

This Instant Pot 5-minute Italian Pasta recipe is a perfect example. As you layer the ingredients you will spread your cooked Italian sausage on bottom, pasta above that, tomato sauce on the top, and your chicken broth poured all around. In this case it’s your chicken broth that will steam up nicely and cook your pasta, but here’s the catch: DO NOT STIR!!!! If you stir in the thin chicken broth with the thicker tomato sauce, there’s a good chance your liquid will immediately be too thick to create circulating steam throughout your pot. If that happens, you’ll need to add MORE liquid, which could seriously affect the flavor and texture of your final dish. Instant Pot 5-Minute Italian Pasta

TRUST me.

Layer everything according to the recipe, then put the lid on. RESIST the temptation to stir it up! And in a zippy 5-minutes you’ll give a quick release to perfect, creamy Italian Pasta that your family will love! Serve it with these equally simple, yet delicious, Quickie Parmesan Bread Sticks, and dinner is done.

Ingredients

  • 1 lb. Italian Sausage I have subbed ground beef many times!
  • 1 lb. penne pasta
  • 1 tsp. Italian seasoning
  • 24 oz. jar of your favorite marinara I used Bertollli Rustic
  • 2 cups chicken broth
  • Whipping cream to taste, to make pasta creamy
  • Freshly shredded Parmesan to taste

Instructions

Directions:

  1. Using the sauté button on your Instant Pot, cook sausage until no pink remains; drain fats from pot. Turn off pot.
  2. Spread cooked sausage evenly over the bottom of the pot, then pour the pasta over the sausage; sprinkle seasonings over pasta. Pour marinara over pasta; pour broth over marinara. DO NOT STIR!!
  3. Lock Instant Pot lid into place. Using the manual button, set IP to 5 minutes on High Pressure setting, bringing IP to full pressure. When timer sounds, perform a Quick Pressure release to remove all pressure from the pot.
  4. Remove IP lid; stir in desired amount of whipping cream to make pasta creamy, incorporating all ingredients in the pot. Serve pasta at once, topped with Parmesan.

I’m excited to make this recipe. How many do you think it will serve?
Thank You,
Sandra

Hi Sandra – Great question. At my house with 4 men, it serves 4! I’d say that for average servings, it will actually serve 8 or more. I hope that helps – please try this recipe – we LOVE it!

I was nervous going into this as I very recently got one of the newer Instant Pot Ultras and it can be tricky. But I followed your recipe exactly (except I used lean ground beef, as my husband won’t eat sausage of any kind) and it turned out perfectly. Even the kids, all of whom are picky, and rarely agree on any dish, heartily approved. I’ll be putting this in our regular meal rotation for sure. Thanks so much!

I have made this twice in the last few weeks!
It’s soooo easy and very tasty for a dish that has very few ingredients, cooks fast and even the leftovers are yummy! That little bit of heavy cream at the end, do it!🥳
Pinned so I will always have it in my records because I don’t want to forget about this little jewel!

HI Robin – Isn’t that just THE BEST Instant Pot pasta recipe? So glad you pinned the recipe and that you enjoyed it. We make it ALL THE TIME!

This was really good. I did have to tweak the heavy cream because I didn’t have any. I used cream cheese instead and it was amazing. Thank you for this recipe.
