Regular cinnamon rolls can seem big and too sinful – you can enjoy one of these and not break the bank, if you know what I mean!
Hawaiian Roll Cinnamon Rolls Recipe Ingredients
- King’s Hawaiian Rolls: This recipe calls for a 12-count package but you can sure double or triple the recipe if you need more. A 10×14 pan will tightly hold two sheets of 12-count Hawaiian rolls.
- Butter: You’ll need softened butter to slather over the rolls and also for making the icing.
- Dark brown sugar: You can substitute light brown sugar if that’s what you have on hand. I always keep dark brown sugar in my baking cupboard, so that’s what I use.
- Cinnamon: If you’re not big on big cinnamon flavor, you may want to cut this recipe back to 1 teaspoon or 1-1/2 teaspoons…adjust to your liking
- For the icing: powdered sugar, kosher salt, milk, vanilla extract – all your basic frosting ingredients, less the cream cheese…we prefer the non-cream cheese cinnamon roll frosting at our house.
How to make Hawaiian Roll Cinnamon Rolls
Preheat the oven to 350 degrees F. Slice the sheet of Hawaiian rolls in half, removing the top sheet from the bottom.
Place the bottom half of the Hawaiian rolls into a greased 9×13 pan. Spread 1/4 cup of the softened butter over the bottom half of the Hawaiian rolls in the pan.
In a bowl, combine the brown sugar with the cinnamon; sprinkle two-thirds of this mixture over the buttered rolls in the pan.
Place the top sheet of Hawaiian rolls over the brown sugar mixture; spread with the remaining 1/4 cup of the softened butter.
Sprinkle the remaining brown sugar mixture over the top.
Bake the cinnamon rolls, uncovered, for 15 minutes or until nicely hot throughout and bubbly on top.
Make the icing by combining the powdered sugar with the remaining 1/4 cup of softened butter, salt, and vanilla.
Add as much milk as needed, a little at a time, until the icing reaches the consistency desired.
Heat the icing in the microwave for a few seconds just until it becomes soft enough to pour.
Then drizzle the warm icing over the baked cinnamon rolls.
Serve the cinnamon rolls while fresh from the oven. Delicious with coffee or a cold glass of milk!
Can I freeze Hawaiian Roll Cinnamon Rolls?
Yes! Hawaiian Roll Cinnamon Rolls freeze beautifully.
Once they are baked, let the cinnamon rolls fully cool, then wrap tightly in a couple of layers of aluminum foil; freeze.
Thaw the rolls in the foil, then place the entire foil package into a 300 degree F. oven for 20-25 minutes or until very warm throughout; drizzle with warm frosting.
