UnBaked Beans in the EPC

This classic side gets an upgrade when you use home-cooked beans! It’s easy with an Electric Pressure Cooker, and NEWS FLASH… there is no soaking required! Cook your beans, then add all the yummy sweet and salty love that your “Baked Bean” heart desires. UnBaked Beans


  • 8 oz. dry navy beans approx. 1 ¼ cups
  • 4 cups broth
  • 1 Tbs. oil
  • 4 strips of bacon
  • 1 yellow onion diced
  • 2 cloves garlic minced
  • ¼ cup dark brown sugar
  • ½ cup water or broth
  • ¼ cup molasses
  • ¼ cup ketchup
  • 1 Tbs. tomato paste browned nicely
  • 1 Tbs. Worcestershire sauce
  • 1 Tbs. spicy brown mustard
  • 1 Tbs. cider vinegar


  1. Bring broth to a boil in Electric Pressure Cooker (like an Instant Pot)- "EPC"; add navy beans and oil; give mixture a quick stir.  Lock EPC lid into place; choose High Pressure setting for 45 minutes, bringing EPC up to full pressure.  When timer sounds, use a Natural Release for 15 minutes, then a Quick Release if any remaining pressure remains in EPC pot.
  2. Remove EPC lid and taste beans to be sure they are tender.  If beans are tender, strain liquids and reserve beans in a bowl.
  3. Choose the sauté setting on EPC pot; when the pot is nicely hot, add the bacon, onion, and garlic, cooking for 2-3 minutes.  Add remaining ingredients to onion mixture and stir to combine; add reserved navy beans.
  4. Lock EPC lid into place; choose High Pressure setting for 5 minutes, bringing EPC up to full pressure.  When timer sounds, perform a Quick Release, removing all pressure from EPC pot.  Give beans a stir and serve.
