Have you tried shopping at Aldi? It’s a slightly different experience from your regular grocery store, but in my opinion it is well worth every trip! I get wonderful whole foods, groceries, and specialty products AND it is easy on the ol’ pocketbook. But there are a few things you should know before diving in. Today I’m sharing my Top Five (not usually mentioned) Things You Need to Know About Shopping at Aldi.
1. It’s Gonna Be Hit or Miss. Know This Going In.
There are tons of things I find at Aldi that I adore, and there are tons of things I find at Aldi that I’ll never buy again. Don’t let this deter you! I find way more things that we like than items we wind up tossing. To me, this makes shopping at Aldi a bit of an adventure. I try to hit the Aldi store twice a month since most of what I’m purchasing there can be frozen.
2. Most of the Time, People Shopping at Aldi Like it When You Ask Them for Feedback about Certain Products You See in Their Carts.
This is a great way to start a conversation and often asking about one product will lead to a conversation about other products you may not yet know about at Aldi. Just keep in mind that not everyone has the same reference point that you do. What one person finds to be tasty, another just may not – and that’s totally fine!
3. Realize That You May Not Be Able to Do
ALL Your Grocery Shopping at Aldi.
I go to Aldi primarily for the purchase of whole foods and rarely purchase any processed foods there. However, I will say that from time to time we have found particular processed foods (such as chips and crackers) that we really do enjoy. And, I still try to support my local small town grocers when I’m in a town that has one – what I don’t purchase at Aldi I purchase here. The savings I gain at Aldi helps offset the higher prices required at small town grocery stores so it averages out for us and I feel good about how I’m spending our food budget $$.
4. Gourmet Gifts Galore!
During the holiday season, you’ll find some really neat specialty items, such as holiday cookies, pannetone, chocolates, candies, spreads, oils, and jams. These make really unique gifts and stocking stuffers that won’t be found elsewhere in town.
5. The Biggest $$ Savings Spot in the Store for Me?
Aldi’s gourmet cheese wall!! I purchase nearly ALL my more gourmet cheeses from Aldi, such as goat cheese logs, havarti, gouda, brie, muenster, asiago, and soft mozzarella, to name just a few. I have yet to find a cheese that I didn’t like from Aldi.
I hope this gives you a new peek at all that Aldi has to offer! What are your favorite reasons for shopping at Aldi?
