DIY Oatmeal Bar Fixins

Breakfast Breakfast Breakfast… It’s STILL the most important meal of the day. It is a time when your body is rested and refreshed and ready to get fueled up to tackle the day. Why skip it? One of the best (and easiest) ways to pack in some hot and tasty nutrition is to create an oatmeal bar with all the fixins for your family to eat together or grab on the go. You’ll know they’re getting a good, hearty breakfast (and you won’t have to do much of the work!)

Busy Morning Oatmeal Bar

The Breakfast Bar works great for your own family or for your extended family! A Steel Cut Oatmeal Bar would be ideal for an early church gathering or Sunday School group. It would take some of the stress out of a house full of Holiday guests. Or it could be the perfect ending to an early morning of farm chores, a post-workout group snack, or a creative teacher’s lounge treat.

Just cook up THIS RECIPE for Steel Cut Oats in the Instant Pot (or use your favorite method). Then add some of these creative toppings:

Assorted Toppings:

  • Grandma Hoerner’s Big Slice Apples (these come in assorted flavors)
  • Yogurt – we like a basic vanilla flavor
  • Assorted nuts and nut butters
  • Flavored milk or almond milk (we like to use Hildebrand Farms Dairy milk in the strawberry flavor along with sliced bananas and almonds)
  • Assorted berries
  • Sliced bananas
  • Chocolate chips
  • Toasted coconut
  • Brown Sugar
  • Honey or Flavored syrups

Combination Ideas:

  • Almond Joy – Chocolate chips, toasted coconut, slivered almonds, and a drizzle of coconut milk
  • Peanut Butter Cup – peanut butter, vanilla yogurt, and chocolate chips
  • Banana Split – sliced bananas, sliced strawberries, vanilla yogurt, chopped peanuts and a drizzle of chocolate syrup
  • Cinnamon Roll – Brown Sugar, Cream Cheese Frosting, Grandma Hoerner’s Big Slice Apples (get recipe)

Oatmeal Shooter Cups – For Oatmeal On The Go!

Portion warm (but not too hot) oatmeal into disposable cups, then top with the favorite toppings of your choice; sometimes I even layer my toppings like an oatmeal parfait into the cups. Add a plastic spoon and send your oatmeal shooter cups out the door with hungry family members ready to conquer the world.
