Super Bowl Time!It’s Super Bowl time!!! Even if you’re not a huge fan of either team (or football, for that matter) you have to admit that the Super Bowl is a fun excuse to throw a big get-together! Today I’m sharing a fun idea to make Super Bowl 50 tasty, interactive, and easy… a S’mores Bar!

Build-your-own food stations are pretty trendy right (thank you, Pinterest!), and in addition, I think they’re a neat way to make guests feel included in our celebrations.
Hands-on activities provide guests with the opportunity to “do something” throughout the event, and it’s fun for them to showcase their masterpiece based on what they concoct at the food stations.  It might not be full-blown cooking that they’re participating in, but it still creates a similar experience.
I found a s’mores station to be fun to set up due to two main things – it’s easy and it’s economical, good indoors or out.  Plus, everybody seems comfortable creating good ole gooey s’mores. (What’s not to love, right?)
S'mores BarI used a long, cedar planter (approx. 2 feet long and about 6 inches deep)  for my stones and cans of sterno, but you can use whatever you happen to have on hand. We filled the planter about one third full with the stones, evenly spaced out my three sterno cans on top, then filled in around the sterno with more stones. (see picture for detail)
There are fancy, expandable roasting sticks that you can purchase, but I went the cheap route and used wooden skewers.  Place your skewers into two tall containers, placing one at each end of the sterno, then place duplicate bowls of s’mores ingredients on both sides of the sterno to allow people to assemble and cook s’mores from all sides.

Build-Your-Own S’Mores Station:

Here are some options for smores ingredients, but feel free to use your imagination:
Large Marshmallows (dah)
Giant Marshmallows (the kids go crazy over these!)
Flavored Marshmallows
Toasted Coconut
Chopped Pecans
Chocolate Peanut Butter Cups
Chocolate Bars
Cookies and Cream Chocolate Bars
Graham Crackers
Chocolate Graham Crackers
Sliced Strawberries
Ritz Crackers – my personal favorite, for creating the best Salty/Sweet smore ever!  Just slather with Nutella and top with a blackened, oozing marshmallow.
S'mores Bars
If there’s not room for a smores station, here’s a recipe you’ll enjoy for delicious S’mores Bars.

S’mores Bars

1 ¼ cups all-purposed flour
¾ cup graham cracker crumbs
½ tsp. baking soda
¼ tsp. salt
½ cup unsalted butter, softened
2/3 cup packed dark brown sugar
1 large egg
1 tsp. vanilla extract
2 large milk chocolate Hershey Bars, 4.4 oz. each, broken into sections
2 cups mini marshmallows
Preheat oven to 350 degrees F.  In a medium mixing bowl, combine flour, graham cracker crumbs, baking soda, and salt; set aside.  In a large mixing bowl, combine butter and brown sugar, beating with an electric mixer until creamy; add egg and vanilla extract.  Beating on low, slowly add flour mixture and mix until combined; press mixture into the bottom of a greased 9 x 9 baking dish, or substitute a greased 10” cast iron skillet.
Place chocolate pieces over the top of the dough, then sprinkle with the marshmallows.  Bake, uncovered, on center rack for 23-25 minutes until puffed and golden brown. (If marshmallows begin to get too brown, place a sheet of foil over the top.)

Let bars cool, but cut into squares before marshmallows cool completely.
