Can you taste the brats waiting for you this season at Royals Stadium?  The brats in this recipe are featured with German flavors  – Braised Onions and Beer Cheese, the perfect Slider combination when paired up with the Pretzel Buns…..just add an ice cold beer.

Brat Sliders with Beer Cheese on Pretzel Buns

1 package of your favorite pre-cooked brats, (I like to use the Johnsonville Stadium Brats), cut in half, each half cut lengthwise
8 mini pretzel buns, toasted
Braised Onions
1 Tbs. butter
1 large onion, thinly sliced
1 cup German lager
1 tsp. granulated sugar
1 tsp. Worcestershire sauce
2 cloves garlic, minced
kosher salt and freshly ground black pepper, to taste

Beer Cheese Sauce
10 oz. shredded Alma Creamery sharp cheddar
1 1/2 Tbs. all purpose flour
1 cup German lager
2 cloves garlic, minced
1 Tbs. spicy brown mustard
Worcestershire sauce, to taste

Add onions and 1 Tbs. of butter to a cast iron skillet over medium heat; saute onions until softened and translucent. Add lager, sugar, and Worcestershire to onions; season to taste with salt and pepper.  Cook onions over medium heat until they begin to caramelize and most of the lager has been absorbed.  Transfer onions to a bowl and keep warm.

In same skillet over medium high heat, add brats and saute on all sides until nicely browned.

Meanwhile, in a bowl, combine cheddar with flour and toss to combine.  In a separate skillet, bring a cup of lager to a boil; add garlic and simmer for about 60 seconds.  Add cheese mixture, a little at a time, stirring constantly after each addition, so that cheese melts evenly.  Once cheese is nicely melted, add add mustard and Worcestershire.

Serve brats loaded onto toasted pretzel buns topped with beer cheese sauce and onions.  These are delicious served along side warm German Potato Salad.

Thanks for the comments guys!! I was happy to take one for the team to find out what all the fuss about JB was about but I won’t be doing it again . It’s someone else’s turn extra time lol. My daughter took both of the pictures above at each concert…the one of David is one of my favorite pictures of him!! That smile makes me go weak in the knti2&#8s30;Juseen’s abs did nothing for me!
